The technique of screen printing on foam food containers using a screen printing machine is mostly similar to screen printing techniques on other products. It is based on the same operating principle: ink is transferred from the top down onto the surface of the product to be printed, and the squeegee of the screen printing machine spreads the ink evenly across the surface. The foam box to be printed is placed on the printing frame, then the ink penetrates according to the machine’s operating principle. After the ink has passed through the screen, the squeegee evenly distributes the ink over all the details to be printed on the foam box—completing a screen-printed product in a fairly simple way, right?
Screen Printing Process on Foam Boxes
The screen printing process on foam boxes includes the following steps:
Under ultraviolet (UV) exposure, the images to be printed are created on a holding frame for the foam box, known as the printing screen.
Place the foam box to be printed onto the frame, followed by positioning the screen with the required design.
Allow the ink to pass through, while the squeegee spreads the ink evenly. The squeegee’s role is to apply pressure so the ink gradually passes through the screen and adheres firmly to the foam box, forming a unified image according to the design pre-installed on the screen printing machine.
Similarly, if you want the images and text to be more eye-catching, you can change the screen and perform multiple overlay prints to create multiple colors and visual effects on the foam box.
Remove the screen-printed foam box from the machine, then let it air-dry or use a drying machine—either method is acceptable—and the printed product is completed.
Package the finished foam boxes to complete the process.
Important Notes When Screen Printing on Foam Boxes
Adjust and pay close attention before printing on foam boxes, as foam cannot withstand high temperatures and is very prone to deformation.
In addition, one of the biggest factors affecting print quality in screen printing is color accuracy. Color discrepancies may occur after printing if the results do not meet expectations. This can happen if the squeegee does not perform its function properly, causing the ink layer to fail to pass accurately through the screen. It may also be due to insufficient screen openness, which prevents ink from penetrating the foam box. Furthermore, the process of mixing and preparing printing inks is another factor that significantly affects print quality when screen printing on foam boxes.
These are the key points to keep in mind when screen printing on foam boxes using a screen printing machine. They will help minimize errors during operation and enable you to produce more high-quality printed products.
